Have you ever struggled to get your kids out during winter?
The cooler weather has officially started rolling in over the last few days, but even with the winter weather fast approaching, it’s important that kids are still able to get out into the fresh air and explore. Here at Burleigh Wagon we’re all about helping families to get out and about as much as possible, so here are 5 of our Favourite Winter Activities to ensure the chilly season doesn’t hold you back!
1) Attend A Footy Game
Football is a hugely popular sport in Australia, and with the 2022 AFL season just kicking off, it’s a great time to bundle up the kids and take them out to their first game!
Several smaller stadiums have grassy areas where you can take your Burleigh Wagon and enjoy the game from its relaxed and casual bench seating. Pack the wagon’s underseat storage with drinks, snacks and blankets to sit on (and snuggle in), and enjoy the game from the grass with your family!
2) Visit The Snow
Can you name a more quintessential winter activity than donning your snow gear and rolling around in the snow? We certainly can’t!
Australia is lucky enough to get snow in a few parts of the country each year, and if you want to plan a full holiday centered around some snow-filled fun, there are a few places you can go. Perisher, Thredbo and Mount Buller are all great places to enjoy a day of tobogganing, snow angels, and snowball fights. You can even go off the beaten track and book a cabin up in the Blue Mountains for a more authentic snow experience. Your Burleigh Wagon will pull well through the snow, so you can laden it up with snacks, warm drinks, and spare gloves for the kids. Also, use it as a comfortable bench seat to relax while the kids play in the snow!
3) Explore Your Local Tourist Attractions
Australia has dozens of zoos, adventure parks, and theme parks around the country. These local tourist destinations are a great place to go and burn off some energy during winter.
Filled with rides, cute and cuddly animals, interactive shows and so much more, theme parks and zoos have endless possibilities for keeping kids of all ages entertained all day long. Often involving large amounts of walking, little (and big) legs may get tired throughout the day, so we highly recommend bringing your Burleigh Wagon with you for your day of adventure to make sure everyone has a fun day out. Use the underseat storage to keep snacks, water, and your nappy bag if you have toddlers. And be sure to bring the USB speaker with you to keep your phone charged throughout the day. If you have a Burleigh Wagon Umbrella or Cushion Seats we recommend bringing these two so you’ve got a comfortable seat (and your kids have a shaded bed!)
We’ve also partnered with Australia Zoo, Aussie World and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary to provide wagons for hire, so if you haven’t joined the Burleigh Wagon family but want to try one out, you can head to one of these three locations.
4) Book A Fishing and Camping Trip
Is there anything more Australian than booking a winter fishing or camping trip? While we get that the idea of camping with little’s can be intimidating for any new parent, it’s a great way to help your kids explore the land around them and get out into the wild to burn off some of that relentless energy!
Bringing your Burleigh Wagon with you can provide extra storage and a safe place for your kids to hang out and play in, but if you’re concerned about camping with little kids, here are a few of our top tips:
- Bring some of your kids favourite toys to help them settle in the new environment
- Ensure you have a variety of your toddlers favourite meals and snacks on hand
- Incorporate nap times into any of your daily itineraries for your younger children
- Pack a variety of games, devices and toys to keep your kids entertained
- Start with a small trip and work upwards from there
5) Head Out For a Bush Walk
Have you ever considered taking your children for a winter bushwalk? Without the beating sun and all of the bugs to compete with, the chilly season is actually the best time to get outdoors and go exploring!
Australia has plenty of family-friendly hikes and bushwalks that you can explore for an hour, a morning, or an entire day. Many of which will be stroller friendly so you can take the Burleigh Wagon too. Pack your wagon with some snacks, sunscreen, hats, and bug spray, so you can have all you need for a successful trip out.
